Lawn Care, Shrub Care & Pest Control FAQs

Q: What to expect when a Pro Care Lawn and Pest technician comes to my house/business for service?

A: At Pro Care Lawn and Pest, our technicians are trained to start observing from the time they pull up to your home. After letting you know we are on the property, we will inspect and treat any issues that are apparent in your yard. In addition to treating active issues, we will provide preventive treatments to control pest from the future.

Q: How much does it cost to come out and leave an estimate?

A: We do not charge anything to come out and leave an estimate. On the contrary we love having the chance to come out and walk the property with you and give you an analysis of what we see. Education is key and the more you know makes the overall goal of a great yard for everybody.

Q: How long will it be between lawn applications?

A: At Pro Care Lawn and Pest we run an 8 application per year program. Depending on the season and issues that are present we will be out between 5-7 weeks.

Q: At what height should I mow my grass for best results?

A: According to the University of Florida IFAS research, grass should be cut with a sharp mower blade at the following heights not to exceed removal of 1/3 of the current grass blade:

  • St Augustine Turf grass should be cut at 3.5-4 Inches
  • Zoysia Turf grass should be cut at 2-2.5 Inches
  • Bermuda Turf grass should be cut at .5-1.5 Inches

Q: Help, my child is allergic to fire ants, is there anything you can do?

A: YES! We can provide a once a year treatment for fire ants with a 1 year guarantee. In addition to the annual treatment we will treat any visible mounds with an insecticide drench.

Q: Why does there need to be multiple treatment for flea and tick control in your home/business?

A: Initially, when Pro Care Lawn and Pest treats your home/business for fleas and ticks, we are targeting living insects. Due to the different life cycles of the insects, a follow up treatment is conducted to control the following generations.

Q: Do I need quarterly Pest Control service if I do not have any pests?

A: Much like getting your oil changed in your vehicle, quarterly service provides a preventive treatment to avoid any future infestations.

Q: I’m seeing moths flying out of lawn, there must be an issue right?

A: Moths coming from your yard could be the adult version of the Sod Web Worm, however the moths themselves do not cause any damage to the lawn.

Q: I have brown spots in my St. Augustine lawn. After extra watering, it is still not recovering. What could it be?

A: Depending on the season, the southern chinch bug can cause damage to your lawn resulting in browning. Please give Pro Care Lawn and Pest a call at 904-288-8494 if the spots continue to spread throughout lawn.

Q: Are you able to get rid of ALL the weeds in my lawn?

A: Unfortunately no. Pro Care Lawn and Pest makes every effort to keep weeds to a minimum by providing pre and post emergent herbicides throughout the year.

Q: My green shrubs are beginning to turn black and flaky, what is my issue?

A: What you are seeing is most likely Black Sooty Mold. This is a result of insects waste on the plant. Please give Pro Care Lawn and Pest a call at 904-288-8494 if the issue continues.

Q: What is Aeration and how does it help my lawn?

A: Aeration is the process of penetrating the ground to allow oxygen into the soil. It benefits in many different ways to include breaking up compaction, improves root development and allows water to make it to the soil level instead of run off.

Q: How often should I water?

A: Due to the changing of seasons in Northeast Florida, watering times vary. Your technician will leave detailed watering instructions with each visit.
